There is a small group of San Diego families busily gathering documents for their dossiers, settling in for the long wait, or anxiously awaiting their referral. Many of us met through e-mail. Eventually we decided to meet in person to share our experience.
We meet for lunch or dinner to share our "paperchase" stories. We discuss referral times, packing lists and travel. The highlight of our afternoons out is a trip to a baby supply store! Some of our most important gatherings include parents who are already home with their children. Their advice is very valuable and greatly appreciated.
As referral times have lengthened, we've found great support from new friends in our "Waiting Families" group. The wait for referral can be frustrating, but the close bond we've developed brings reassurance that we are not alone.
We welcome new paperchasing and waiting families, along with families considering adoption from China. If any experienced parents are interested in joining us on our next outing, we'd love to meet with you and hear about your trip to China!
If, at the next FCC-SD gathering, you see a small group of people sitting together looking longingly at all of your beautiful children, stop by and say hello. Soon we'll be bringing our own children to FCC events and sharing our experiences with the next batch of Waiting Families!
