On February 27th, 2001, sixty of our youngest members became citizens of the United States when the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 became law. We recognized these new citizens and celebrated the citizenship of all of our children at a special gathering on April 7th, 2001 at the Chinese Community Church.

This wonderful event was co-hosted by:
The Chinese School of San Diego,
The House of China,
The Chinese Community Church,
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of San Diego,
and the Optimist Club (East/West Chapter of San Diego),
and was coordinated by our very own Janice Miller.

Thank you Janice! and Thank you to all the supporters and volunteers. You really made this a SPECIAL DAY!

We were welcomed with songs from the students of the Chinese School of San Diego.

And were honored with my special guests, including the Honorable Albert Tom, Gina Lew, freelance broadcast journalist and adoptive mother, and Sally Avery, Principal of the Chinese School of San Diego and President of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of San Diego.

Beautiful FCC-SD certificates were presented to the new citizens by Judge Tom. These certificates were designed by FCC-SD member Diane Beckel, who also designed the FCC-SD logo.

Trish Smith produced beautiful books "What it means to be a Citizen" for our new Citizens!

One of the pages invites the children to draw a picture of themselves as a brand new Citizen of the United States of America. Annie, age 4, drew a great self-portrait with her mother Susan.

China-USA Flag Pins were provided to the children by Marty Foltyn and Jim Wirt

and the volunteers supplied everyone with USA Flags.

There were a lot of happy children and very proud parents at the celebration

And one of our little citizens has a prize momento!

Beautiful erhu and piano music was provided by Ms. Wen and a talented pianist.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by two Girl Scouts, Rochelle B., Katie K., and Anna Jean W.

The Star Spangled Banner was led Christine Sue Jow.

Event decorations provided by Optomist International, East San Diego District. They did a fantastic job!

We also enjoyed a great potluck; it was so nice to visit with old and new friends and the food was delicious!

Time for a nap!
